Law of Polarity

Opposites that are inseparable.

The Law of Polarity, which is non-cyclical, speaks of extremes of the same thing. These extremes are always connected. Examples include light and dark, high and low, hot and cold, joy and sorrow, and so on. Extremes can occur on a physical, mental, or spiritual level. Polarity refers to the difference in direction and encompasses the two extremes of one and the same scale or continuum. Despite their polarity, both are inseparable. The difference between these extremes lies in the degree of expression. Without these poles, no experience or development is possible; high only has meaning if low also exists, hot only has meaning if cold also exists. This is a world of subjective relativity, meaning that something only exists or is considered true in relation to something else. For example: hot and cold; where hot begins and cold ends depends on the perception of the person, with the person themselves setting the standard. Our entire existence is structured this way.

In 'Het licht zal je bevrijden' (The light will set you free) by N. Milanovich & S. McCune, it is explained that everything has extremes and is connected to each other:

The Law of Polarity considers an object or condition in itself, as distinct from other objects or conditions. For example, on a continuum, ‘love’ cannot be related to ‘winter’ because these conditions are on different planes, or refer to different categories, objects, or relationships. When we think about these conditions or objects, which are on the same continuum, we soon realise that no absolutes exist. At what point does water change from warm to cold, or when does summer become winter? Opposites are the two extremes of one and the same thing. The difference simply lies in the degree to which we perceive each pole that exists on the same continuum.
(N. Milanovich & S. McCune, 2017, p.213)

From polarity to balance.

To better understand the Law of Polarity, it is useful to imagine a pendulum swing: the two poles of the pendulum represent the full range of, for example, the emotion of love and hate. When the pendulum is in the realm of hate, our mind always offers the possibility, through conscious choice, to move the pendulum to the other pole of love. The ultimate goal is to find the middle ground, so that polarity no longer governs us. There is neither love nor hate, but unconditional acceptance. Once this is reached, our ego will have little influence, but a connection with The Self will emerge. In the book “In The Light” by N. Milanovich and S. McCune, it is stated that: "Every emitted reaction must then be analysed for the frequency it contains, and a decision can then be made to change behaviour to a higher or lower frequency. This is possible because all things exist on a continuum" (2017, p.215).

Developing within the Law of Polarity.

We have come to Earth to create and then to experience. Life is a creative process: experience follows creation, and development follows experience. All knowledge is contained within the soul; however, it is absolute and lacks experience. To be able to experience, extremes, as in the law of polarity, are necessary; a context must be created. Because it is inevitable and necessary that we develop an ego during our reincarnation, there is duality such as good and bad, joy and pain, and so on. Within this context of subjective relativity (duality), we experience our creations, which we have created with our thoughts, words, emotions, and deeds. This creative process between the extremes provides us with more experience, consciousness, and new insight over many lifetimes. By consciousness, we mean insight gained through experience. To increase our consciousness, it is necessary to experience both the extremes and everything in between.

From duality to balance.

The goal is, as always, development, or in other words: the return home. When we as humans feel the need to no longer experience the extremes of life, we bid farewell to the dualistic world of the ego. This does not happen by taking a bit of both extremes and mixing them, but is only possible through knowledge and experience. Concretely, this means that through knowledge and experience, someone has the ability to remain balanced in all situations and always choose inner peace. That means we have control over our mental and emotional bodies. Control does not mean suppressing all emotions, but truly recognising them for what they are, namely the world of the ego. When we look at the two extremes of love and hate, the middle unconditional. This means that we are no longer led by the extremes of love or hate, but achieve a state of being where we can be without judgment and conditions. In this balance, there is no ego choosing one of the poles, but a connection with the soul emerges. A statement that fits this is:

Be in the world, but not of the world.

["post-3440","wet","type-wet","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry

11.
